S5 Work experience

Discovering the professional world, developing key skills gaining practical experience to help guide students in their academic and future study choices. The École internationale de Differdange et Esch-sur-Alzette  offers our pupils this opportunity by organising an annual week of work experience (Working Experience – WEX) for all S5 pupils.

This compulsory internship is part of the new WEX/CAAP framework of the European Schools system (document 2024-01-D-33-en-2) and aims to offer students their first immersion in the professional world.

Internship objectives

The work experience placement enables students to:

  • discover the reality of the world of work;

  • observe different professions and professional environments;

  • develop personal and social skills (responsibility, communication, independence, punctuality, etc.);

  • reflect on their future study choices.

The aim of this internship is not to train students for a specific career, but to offer them an authentic experience of the professional world.

Duration and period

The internship takes place during the last week of the school year.
It lasts for five working days.

Location of the internship

For school insurance reasons, the internship must be carried out in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Internships within the family environment (parents, relatives) are prohibited.
Students cannot be remunerated, as the internship is part of the school programme.

Company search

Students are expected to find a company or institution willing to take them on themselves.

Families can assist, but the school cannot search for placements for students.

Administrative documents

The internship is subject to:

  • an internship agreement (provided by the school), to be signed and returned in triplicate to the tutor before the deadline;

  • an internship report written by the student at the end of the week;

  • an evaluation report to be completed by the company.

At the end of the programme, students who have fulfilled all requirements will receive an internship certificate.

Deadlines and required documents are communicated each year to students and families by the school.
